Introduction to Taal Course
Over 4 videos, this course teaches in simple English:
• What is rhythm or Taal?
• If you've never been able to sing on-beat, is that a skill you can develop? (Yes!)
• The Indian Classical music concepts of theka, Bhatkhande lipi, Taali and Khaali
• Learn an alankaar and sing it on the easiest taal – Dadra
• How to display alankaar on Dadra taal using your hands
• How to check if you are singing correctly?
You will also get 18 pages of lesson notes, handwritten personally by Sanchita, which will teach taal markings and give step-by-step instructions on what to practise.
This course has been split into 15 days, so even if you’re a beginner, you can take this one day at a time and avoid getting overwhelmed!

Did you know that the majority of Bollywood songs are based on Keharva taal? The theka played on the tabla may be different (there are hundreds of thekas!) but the 4+4 division remains the same, and is signature of Keharva Taal.
If you've finished the Beginner Taal Course, take the next step by learning Bollywood’s favourite taal! Over 4 weeks, you will learn:
• What is Keharva Taal?
• The Indian Classical music concepts of theka, Bhatkhande lipi, Taali and Khaali
• Practise singing alankaars on Keharva Taal
• How to improve your mental “clock” — i.e. how to know from which 'maatra' (beat) to start singing.
• How to keep track of the 1st beat of the taal, even while singing
• Learn to sing a Bollywood song on a karaoke track
You will also get 32 pages of lesson notes, handwritten personally by Sanchita, which will teach taal markings and give step-by-step instructions on what to do each week.
